Certifications of FOUNDATION Fieldbus DTMs Respond to Market Demands

September 5, 2008

The certification of over 50 FOUNDATION fieldbus device DTMs makes FDT Technology available for applications based on FOUNDATIONTM Technology

The FDT Group proudly announces that the certification of DTMs compatible with FOUNDATION fieldbus (FF) is going strong.  Certification of FF DTMs started in May 2008, the number of certified devices reached 52 in just a few months – and is still growing by the day.  The DTM provides a standard software interface that gives the process automation system, engineering tools and asset management systems access to all the advanced features of smart field devices.

End 2007, WIB, international end users association, issued the results of a performance test[1] they had commissioned to the Shell Global solutions test laboratory, comparing the performance of FDT and EDDL technologies in Asset Management. One highlight was the recommendation that manufacturers should implement FDT/DTM technology in more FF devices to make all the benefits of FDT available to the users of FOUNDATION fieldbus.

The recommendation was heard loud and clear, as demonstrated by the fast increasing number of certified FF compatible device and communications DTMs.  The complete updated list of certified DTMs is accessible on the FDT Group web site:  www.fdtgroup.org

Achim Laubenstein, VP of technology for the FDT Group, declares: “This is a milestone in our market penetration and technology development strategy.  Our end users have long requested a rigorous certification process as an assurance for trouble free implementation of their automation projects.  A large number of certified FDT devices were already available with HART and PROFIBUS communication protocols.  We have now populated our extensive list of certified DTMs with many FOUNDATION fieldbus compatible devices.  The combination of FDT and FOUNDATION fieldbus technologies is a favorite solution in the Oil & Gas industry that has been adopted by leading end users for very large automation projects worldwide.”
