FDT Group Invites Industrial Automation Community to FITS™ Developer Workshop

June 12, 2019

FDT Group™, an independent, international, not-for-profit industry association supporting the evolution of FDT technology, invites the industrial automation community to the scheduled FDT IIoT Server (FITS) Developer Workshop, to be led by FDT technology experts on the 8-9 October, 2019, in Stuttgart, Germany. End users, developers, product managers, system architects, IT/OT professionals, business strategists, and others are welcome to engage with live demos, gain hands-on programming experience, and more.

The emerging FITS standard, set to release at year-end, will provide control system and device vendors with the opportunity to advance their intelligent automation solution offerings with FDT’s standards-based, platform-independent, information-driven business models meeting the demands of the process and discrete markets. FITS will empower the intelligent enterprise by transforming manufacturing practices, enabling open, secure and flexible deployment architectures and sensor-to-cloud integration with embedded OPC Unified Architecture (UA) and Web Servers, as well as built-in security features and deployment options for cloud, edge, on-premise and desktop environments.

The FITS Developer Workshop will provide an opportunity to learn about universal device integration and asset management supporting the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Industry 4.0 manufacturing initiatives. It will also offer an advance look at the FITS standard before specification release. In addition to an in-depth study of the FITS platform, attendees will gain hands-on experience with FDT’s modernized Integrated Development Environment (IDE) tools for compliant FITS Servers and FITS DTMs using the official Common Component tool kits.

Day one of the workshop on the 8 October will include a session that takes a deep dive into the FITS standard to cover the platform for FITS Servers and FITS DTMs, use cases, deployment architectures, security features, certification, mobility offerings, the new DTM cloud-based repository, and more. The evening activities will include entertainment at the Stuttgart Bier Festival (Cannstatter Volksfest) hosted by M&M Software.

Day two 9 October will focus on using the new developer tools to gain programming experience with the FITS Server and DTM Common Component tool kits that are required to create compliant FITS Servers and DTMs. The new tools have been updated based on user feedback to create an environment allowing for quick and easy development so system and device vendors can focus on custom/value-added features that will differentiate their products from competitors.

Interested parties may register to attend a single day session or both days. Registration is open to FDT Group members and non-members. Members that register for Day 2 will receive copies of Common Components for loading to their PC prior to the event.  Please note that non-members will require approval by the FDT Group Business Office for the Day 2 hands-on programming workshop. Please contact [email protected] for more details.

Space is limited, so advance registration is encouraged. Attendance is free of charge. FDT Group extends a special thanks to M&M Software for hosting coffee breaks, lunch and evening entertainment, which are included in event registration. Hotel accommodations have also been made available (separate charge).
